weapons of mass destruction should not get into hostile hands
certain countries use weapons of mass destruction as a deterant to war, while some countries use weapons of mass destruction to threaten war. If these weapons of mass destruction get into the wrong hands of say extremists with an agenda, it is the duty of the world to take the weapons of mass destruction out of their hands.
United states of America and the tiny state of Israel have weapons of mass destruction to protect themselves. When the soviet union broke apart, all the weapons of mass destruction in the former soviet union became vulnerable to theft. We no longer know who owns what.
weapons of mass destruction stolen include: chemical and biological weapons, nuclear materials, and certain hardware like parts and electronics.
Lord of War and other movies portrayed the high value in theft and the desire for countries to aqquire weapons of mass destruction, even at the cost of the lives of their own people.
Obtaining a biological mask may be futile if everything is contaminated for hundreds of years with nuclear material. If its chemical warfare, you may have a chance.

Radiological and Nuclear Disaster Preparedness
Are we, as a nation, prepared for a radiological or nuclear attack? With concern over continued terrorist threats at home and abroad, “dirty bombs”, and the nuclear armament of rogue states, this question is just as relevant today as it was on September 11. This special session of Public Health Grand Rounds not only addresses these challenges, but reviews current efforts to improve the public health community’s ability to prepare for and respond to these threats.

Abandoned Japanese chemical weapons buried in China during WW2 – NHK 100902
chemical weapons disposal plant opens in China
In Nanjing, a plant to dispose of chemical weapons abandoned in China by Japan at the end of World War Two has been completed.
Japan spent about 3.5-billion yen, or around 42-million dollars, to build the plant.
Senior Vice Minister of the Cabinet Office Hideo Hiraoka represented Japan at the plant’s opening ceremony on Wednesday. He said the plant’s completion marks a new phase in the disposal of abandoned chemical weapons in China. He explained that the surveying and excavation phases have ended and work will now begin on the destruction phase.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun said China hopes Japan will thoroughly dispose of the discarded weapons as quickly as possible.
Japan plans to conduct test runs and safety checks at the Nanjing plant. There are about 37,000 weapons now stored in the city. Disposal will begin by the end of September, at the earliest.
April 2012 is the deadline for the disposal under the Chemical Weapons Convention. But Japan will have to ask for a deadline extension. Up to 400,000 weapons left by the former Imperial Army are said to remain buried in northeastern China. Only 48,000 have been recovered so far.

BBC Israel’s Nukes and Chemical Weapons 1 of 5
Nuclear weapons
Main article: Nuclear weapons and Israel
Although no official statistics exist, it has been estimated that Israel possesses up to 400 thermonuclear weapons, believed to be of Teller-Ulam design, including strategic warheads in the megaton-range.[3][4][5] Delivery mechanisms include Jericho intercontinental ballistic missiles, with a range of 11,500 km.[6] Additionally, Israel is believed to have an offshore nuclear second-strike capability, using submarine launched nuclear-capable cruise missiles.[7] The Israeli government maintains a policy of deliberate ambiguity on whether it has nuclear weapons, saying only that it would not be the first to “introduce nuclear weapons in the Middle East.”[8] Former International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Mohamed ElBaradei regarded Israel as a state possessing nuclear weapons.[9]
Israel has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. However, on July 13, 2008, Israel took part in a regional conference of the Union for the Mediterranean which pledged to pursue a Middle East Zone free of weapons of mass destruction.[10]
[edit] Chemical weapons
Israel has signed but not ratified the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). There are speculations that a chemical weapons program might be located at the Israel Institute for Biological Research (IIBR) in Ness Ziona.[11]
190 liters of dimethyl methylphosphonate, a CWC schedule 2 chemical used in the synthesis of Sarin nerve gas, was discovered in the cargo of El Al Flight 1862 after it crashed in 1992 en route to Tel Aviv. Israel insisted the material was non-toxic, was to have been used to test filters that protect against chemical weapons, and that it had been clearly listed on the cargo manifest in accordance with international regulations. The shipment was from a U.S. chemical plant to the IIBR under a U.S. Department of Commerce license.[12]
In 1993, the U.S. Congress Office of Technology Assessment WMD proliferation assessment recorded Israel as a country generally reported as having undeclared offensive chemical warfare capabilities.[2] Former US deputy assistant secretary of defense responsible for chemical and biological defense, Bill Richardson, said in 1998 “I have no doubt that Israel has worked on both chemical and biological offensive things for a long time … There’s no doubt they’ve had stuff for years.”[13]
[edit] Biological weapons
Israel is believed to have developed an offensive biological warfare capability.[2] Israel is not a signatory to the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC). It is assumed that the Israel Institute for Biological Research in Ness Ziona develops vaccines and antidotes for chemical and biological warfare.[14] While Israel is not known to be producing biological weapons currently, there remains speculation that Israel’s ability to start production and dissemination, if necessary, remains active.[15]
