David Cameron says the success of the British military mission in Libya does not mean Britain has adopted “a new British doctrine for intervention.”

In his annual setpiece foreign affairs speech to the Lord Mayor of London’s banquet the Prime Minister said Britain would not “charge in regardless” in the event of future overseas crises.

“Look at the reasons for the success of the Libya campaign. We set limited goals and stuck to them. We worked with allies. We went through the United Nations. We had the support of the people,” he said.

He strongly defended his decision to commit British forces, even though he acknowledged that the UK did not have to get involved in Libya.

“We saved civilian lives as Gaddafi’s tanks bore down on Benghazi. We helped the Libyan people to liberate themselves,” he said. “I would argue that our action helped keep the Arab Spring alive.”

He added: “It’s also worth noting that although Gaddafi agreed to declare and dismantle all his weapons of mass destruction and although we made real progress diminishing the threat he posed in the last few days we have learnt that the new Libyan authorities have found chemical weapons that were kept hidden from the world.”

NATO ended its military operation in Libya on Monday after seven months of launching air and sea missions that helped in the overthrow of Muammar Qaddafi’s regime.

A U.N. Security Council resolution closed the mandate which had authorized military actions last week, despite claims by National Transitional Council chair Mustafa Abdel Jalil that NATO’s help would be needed until the end of the year.

The no-fly zone, which was imposed as part of international efforts to protect anti-government protesters from Qaddafi loyalists, also ended on Monday, according to the same resolution drafted last week.

In a related news, the Security Council also urged Libya’s interim government to track down missing shoulder-fired missiles and take precautionary measures to keep them out of the hands of al-Qaeda and other militant groups.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Joy Ogwu said, the resolution is for mopping up weapons in post-conflict Libya. The danger and the threat posed by the proliferation of weapons in Libya after the conflict has been recognized by the council and this resolution is to pursue this mopping up strategy, especially MANPADS, small arms and light weapons. And that will help in accelerating the process of peace building and peacemaking in the region. When people disarm, then peace follows.”

The council has also called on Libya to cooperate with the Organization for the Prohibition of chemical weapons to destroy its remaining chemical weapon storage.

PKK released names of guerrillas who lost their life in Çukurca

Kurdish guerrillas denounced use of chemical weapons in air raids by Turkish army

People”s Defence Forces press office HPG-BIM has reported that at least 24 guerrillas lost their lives as a result of severe clashes and air attacks where chemical weapons were used in Guze Reşê and Gunde Pîre areas of Çukurca district on October 22.

The statement said that the 24 bodies at Malatya Forensic Medicine Institution are those of HPG guerrillas who lost their life in these clashes. HGP remarked that researches made had confirmed the usage of napalm bombs and chemical weapons during these clashes.

The statement underlined that altogether there was a unit of a total of 35 guerrillas who were in the region during intensive air assaults, intensive chemical bombardment and clashes in Çukurca on 22-24 October. Contacts have been stopped since the bombing.

HPG released the names of all of the 35 guerrillas in that unit, not being able to declare for sure who are those lying in Malatya.

HPG ended the statement calling on all human rights organizations and democratic institutions and establishments to demand investigation into the usage of chemical weapon. ANF

Russian site za-kaddafi.ru gives a report, concerning the war in Libya. There are Russians and other foreign citizens some with military experience, in Libya who are offering solidarity with the African nation which has faced many massacres, and non-stop bombing by the US-European “NATO” alliance.

Libya has held out single-handed and entered the ranks of world military history by its resistance under clear skies, with no air defenses and six months on non-stop cruise missiles, bombs, and now also chemical weapons and the cutting of water and food to entire cities by NATO-rebels.

The Russian site reports that a detachment of seventy thousand (70,000) volunteers have come from Niger to help defend Libya, and that they are at the disposal of Colonel Gaddafi. In the towns of Bani Walid and Sirte, NATO used mustard gas and cluster bombs during the past week, with horrific injuries evident.

Sirte and Bani Walid have been subjected to constant bombing, and wide spread use of sound bombs to prevent the population from sleeping as well as cause disorientation and now also the use of chemical weapons.

All human rights and media organizations of the world, as well as “NGOs” and the “United Nations” have been silent on this matter, with only those governments that are not in the hands of the banking elite (including Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Zimbabwe) speaking out and demanding that an international tribunal examine NATO war crimes.

To this end some initiatives are now under way but seeking popular support as they are genuine and not motivated by money or funds, as is evidently the case with Amnesty International (which recently earned the name “Amnesia International” for its complete lack of mention of Libya in its 3-months publication June-August entitled “Human Rights Defender”) and other such organizations.
